Tablet PC podcast debuts and Tablet PC CES 2005 meetup pics |

Apparently Lora Heiny was doing some harddrive cleaning and found nine pictures Loren snapped at CES 2005, including one of Fritz and I shaking hands:
Look what I found on my hard drive: Loren’s photos from the CES 2005 Tablet PC Meetup. Looks like most of these are as things were winding down, in other words, after everyone had eaten. The photo of Fritz (on the left) and TDavid (on the right) is my favorite.
Aww, thanks Lora, I guess it must be that Fritz has more gray hair than me!
Just listened to the debut podcast of The Tablet PC Show with host James Hendrick. I’m probably one of the few people who listens to podcasts that hasn’t listened to the G’Day World Podcast yet (heard about it on more than a few occasions though), but I must say the production value is very good.
I contacted Mr. Hendrick about my willingness to contribute to the Tablet PC show back when he asked me to contact him through a comment made on ensight.org. I sent him an email and never got a response. I posted a follow-up comment on his jkontherun blog and this time he responded to me that he never got my original email and he had enough people and didn’t need any help at this time. That seemed sort of odd to me, because when you are putting together a radio show there really isn’t any such thing as having too much content (you always can roll content into future shows), because you want the listeners wanting more, not going: hmm, that was it, huh?
Anyway, our initial communication issues aside, I generally liked the content of the podcast and I agree with one of the commenters that Hendrick should get a co-host. Perhaps an alter-ego or contrasting talent. Somebody who maybe wasn’t so enamored with the Tablet PC like Hendrick seems to be; sort of a good cop, bad cop Tablet PC routine to liven up the show a bit. He’s got a pleasant but somber radio voice which could put a listener to sleep if listened to for any length of time. The first show sort of meandered and dragged on a bit, length-wise and hopefully will be shortened to 30 minutes or less once the show gains its legs. If he has a good interview then 45 - 60 minutes would be fine, but running solo, it’s very difficult to go more than 20 or 30 minutes and maintain interest.
As for the content, I always thought it was pronounced “hi-knee” not “hay-knee” as he pronounced Lora, Layne and Loren’s names. If he was wrong it’s probably something he wants to correct on the next show because as he noted, the Heinys are well connected in the Tablet PC sphere. Perhaps one of the Heiny’s will clear the air on what’s correct? (Update: Lora Heiny stopped by in the comments to confirm that it is, indeed pronounced “hi-knee.” Thank you, Lora!)
That Orange Guava application looks interesting. It would be cool if Hendrick would break up the tools into freeware and commercial rather than mixing them all together. Most Tablet PC apps are not free and I was a bit surprised that on the first show Kendrick didn’t mention the cool, free Tablet PC PowerToys. He talks a bit about the new version of the snipping tool, but I didn’t catch him paying any homage to the best free apps area for the Tablet PC area that I’ve found to date. Maybe I just missed that one.
All in all, a good first effort. Bookmarked.
Did this post make you go hmm?

hey mate, thanks for the feedback re the Tablet PC show and G’Day World. We’ll take it on board! And I’m sure James will try to get you on the show at some stage. I know he’s flat out with interviews lined up a couple of weeks in advance at this stage, but as you say, we always need new content! Hope you keep listening!

You got it - “hi-knee”. With a last name like Heiny, people usually go out of their way to be polite and pronounce it any other way. We’re certainly used to all the possible pronunciations.
