Art extravaganza at Feb 2005 Seattle Blogger Meetup

travel, photoshop it — by TDavid @ 11:43 am PST

Last night at the February 2005 Seattle blogger meetup none other than Chris Pirillo in his second blogger meetup appearance was eyeballing my M1400 Tablet PC from across the room. Eventually, he stepped over and asked if he could try it out and I said, “Sure!” Then he proceeded to show us his artistic side by drawing the Lockergnome using ArtRage – himself!

Of course Chris didn’t stop there, he drew a picture of his dog next.

It took him less than ten minutes to draw both of these! Shortly after drawing these he said, “[ArtRage] alone would sell me on a Tablet PC.” Somewhere Scoble’s ears are ringing!

I won’t attempt to add any of my pathetic artistic skill to the fray, but Jake from 8-bit Joystick came over and drew a cameo of me (also very fast, I might add) that although makes me look a bit somber, was also well done:

So what else happened at the fourth Seattle blogger meetup that I’ve attended (see previous meetups: Nov, Dec, Jan):

  • I demoed the Tablet PC in desktop mode for David Innes, showing how the toolbar StumbleUpon was useful for me as a blogger in capturing links and adding brief comments so that later I could blog about them. Also interested in this discussion was Bob Bill Brown (sorry, I didn’t get his website URL, he doesn’t have a blog yet) and Anita who wondered if StumbleUpon was like del.icio.us (I can never spell that one right).
  • Spoke to Matt May about his Staccato podcast and how I felt what he was doing with promoting non-RIAA bands was significant. Also let him know that we were doing a 2005 Battle of the Bands on our web radio show and using non-RIAA, Creative Commons artists for this contest. Matt, again, if you have any good rock/techno artists that fit this bill, please let me know as we still have a good 30 or so spots open this year that we’re trying to fill with good independent, non-RIAA artists.
  • Demoed Zinio for reading magazines digitally. As I mentioned in my 60 day Tablet PC owner piece, this is one of my primary uses: reading computer magazines like PC Magazine and MacWorld on the Tablet PC in portrait mode via Zinio.
  • Jowl was there playing his Nintendo DS and taking pictures of the event:

They were sure interested in what Jake was doing, but I don’t know what this was about.

We were there two hours, arriving a little past 7pm PST. This coming Saturday is the Northern Voice conference in Canada and I’m a little surprised I didn’t hear more talk about this event. I brought it up at one point noting how it was great to see such an affordable event. At least one blog-related event every month in 2005 continues!

Did this post make you go hmm?

“Tell TDavid that I loved, loved, loved his annotated & illustrated Meetup report! I wish that I had someone like that blogging my Meetup group!

It’s also a plus that his weblog is entitled ‘Things that go Hmm…’

(Hilary’s initials are Hmm for Hilary Moon Murphy. She signs her posts that way, which always makes me think that she’s humming.)
