Jose Canseco reminds me of Ivan Drago |

Ivan Drago, played by Dolph Lundgren, in Rocky IV was supposed to be the greatest challenger of all time. He fought Apollo Creed and killed him with his fists. This lured a battered Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) out of retirement to fight the behemoth. In one part of the exercise one of the Russian trainers talks about Drago’s training regiment and how it absolutely didn’t involve any drugs — but then there is a cut to a training montage later back and forth between Rocky and Drago that clearly shows a needle injecting roids into Drago.
Today, like many other baseball fans I was out buying Jose Canseco’s new book: Juiced, Wild Times, Rampant ‘Roids, Smash Hits and How Baseball Got Big. The first thing I noticed at the local Borders was unlike the day Pete Rose’s book was released, Borders had this right in the front when you walked into the store. The Rose book you had to go back to the Sports section to find on the outside. Canseco’s book is already a bestseller and the book can be had for 30% off ($19 USD) through Borders or you can order through Amazon for $16.47 (plus shipping). Canseco was on FOX Sports Radio being interviewed today about his book and the claims he’s made about specific MLB players using steroids.
Last night Canseco was on 60 Minutes. He sure is blowing a lot of whistles and naming several names, which isn’t likely to ever raise his supposed blackballing from baseball. From reading the first few pages of the book, it immediately reminded me of the fictional Rocky foe, Ivan Drago. I will read the rest of the book before I give my opinion on the Jose’s claims about specific people juicing. Bud Selig, commissioner of baseball is saying: “Nobody has been convicted of anything.”
Hmm.
