*New Syndic8 blogging energy from Jeff Barr

default — by TDavid @ 8:52 pm PST

Well, this blog may not be ”new” as far as the blogosphere goes, but in August 2004, Jeff Barr of Syndic8 fame (and also works on webservices for Amazon) started blogging with renewed energy after a server meltdown. He’s back and this time using Wordpress. His first post describes the blog focus:

This will not be an ultra-personal blog, you won’t hear too much about my kids, my wife, my dog, or anything like that. I won’t get very political, or too religious. I will be talking about RSS and syndication, my work on Syndic8, web services, PHP, MySQL, web development, books, travel and other things that I find interesting. My goal is to share information, not to make anyone angry or to stir up controversy.

And share information he has! Check out the handy list of MySQL stopwords that he found and shared:

This handy little document contains additional information about the word-breaking algorithm, additional information on the operation of boolean search, a complete list of stopwords for English

And here’s another handy tidbit on the MySQL query log. He also blogged a couple of different events including day one of the Blog Business Summit. For something a litttle more off the wall, check out this post he found via Metafilter about a supposed Paul McCartney lookalike.

It’s amazing how much you can learn about someone through their blog these days. I met Jeff in person last month at the Seattle blogger meetup. He’s a very friendly, personable developer. He told me that I was the first person he saw actually using a Tablet PC that didn’t work for Microsoft. I guess I’m the type of evangelist that every company wants to have: the one who isn’t paid to do it!

Jeff is going to be be speaking at the Evans Data Developer Relations Conference in Santa Clara, California on Tuesday March 8, 2005. If any readers here are going to that, then please ask him what he thinks of Ruby and let me know. The next time I talk to him, I plan to do so. I am hearing more and more buzz about this scripting language and would like to hear other professional opinions as to its merits in our developer toolboxes.

Here, I’ll save you the extra step to subscribe to Jeff’s blog:
