Sony PSP North America launch date: Thursday March 24, 2005 |
First quarter 2005 launch for PSP will be at $100 USD more than the Nintendo DS.
The unit will retail as a “value pack” for $249.99 in the United States and C$299.99 in Canada. The package will include a number of accessories and a copy of the movie “Spider-Man 2″ on Sony’s new UMD disc format, designed for the PSP and capable of holding three times the data of a traditional CD-ROM.
The Nintendo DS since its launch hasn’t had any exciting new game launches which is a bit disappointing. With E3 coming up, certainly a new batch of games will be created. That’s what success boils down to for these portable systems: what games are there. If PSP has the games, it will do well, but if not then it will go the way of Lynx and other cool handheld systems that couldn’t best Nintendo.
This gamer is not interested in a new format for movies … why buy them on a special, Sony-only format instead of DVD? Give us cool web functionality and I’ll be much more excited because that’s one area the Nintendo DS is lacking.

They would sell better if they were all released for sub $10, but people aren’t going to pay more than the price of a DVD and in some cases the same price as an HD-DVD. Come on, Sony. […]
