Bushway: “Get the (Tablet PC) price to an attractive level” |
Have to agree with Rob Bushway who I met at the Tablet PC meeting during CES in Vegas on this one:
In my opinion, the best thing that could happen to Tablet PC’s is price reduction. Get the price at an attractive level ($1500 or lower) and the public will take a serious look. The reason my kids don’t use Tablet PC’s in our homeschool is that they are too expensive.
Price was definitely a motivating factor in delaying my Tablet PC purchase. The other biggie was retail store penetration; some stores are carrying them. It just seems like a business device with B2B marketing. That’s not a problem if that’s the market they want to thrive in, but it is a problem if the idea is to gain widespread adoption.
Jeff Barr from Syndic8 and who does programming for Amazon told me at the Seattle Blogger meetup last week: “You are the first person I’ve seen with a Tablet PC that doesn’t work for Microsoft.” I think this is a perspective that many folks still share.
