My wife and I have been talking about The Beatles a lot lately since seeing their tribute band, The Fab Four, in Vegas. In Googling I came across lots of interesting information about the Beatles like the Wiki, but then I came across this wild conspiracy theory that rather strangely fingers my favorite horror novelist, Stephen King:

Contrary to all reports about a lone drifter named Mark David Chapman who allegedly shot John Lennon in the back December 8, 1980 you’ll find ample evidence in the back issues of Time, Newsweek, and US News and World Report magazines to suggest otherwise. Namely, that John Lennon was, not only politically assassinated, but that Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and, you’d better sit down, horror novelist Stephen King are the three people who can be proven guilty of the crime. King being the real murderer and Chapman but a look-alike, paid actor misleading you with an absolute hoax, the media in tow.

Of course I don’t believe a word of this and hopefully readers won’t either, but this is proof of how bizarre conspiracy theorists can be. Now I sure hope I don’t invite the crazies to this blog with entries like this … I know, I’m asking for it! Stephen King going all Shining on a Beatle? LOL!

  1. i am so glad someone else has heard of this guy! his site is our favorite for when we’re feeling crazy & overworked, reading his rants will make you feel like the calmest most rational thinking being in the world. also makes you laugh hysterically!! ha ha ha

  2. Facts are stranger than fiction. Who ever thought Arnold would be Governor of California. Star Trek–TNG has an interesting quote about conspiracies, “When you know it’s a conspiracy, it’s too late.” Mr. Lightfoot maybe crazy, but his theory is not stupid.

  3. this disperceptive pinwheel has called every talk show in the bay area and many across the nation with his psychologically projected madness

he usualy imitates a SANE person to get ON the air and then goes off on his mad tangent

ive seen the bizarre newspaper headline papered van which it appears passes for his HOME, in San Rafael Ca as late as 2003

  4. I am Steve Lightfoot, the much maligned evidence hero of lennonmurdertruth.com. Rather than shoot down all the ignorant pinheads who disparage me I will simply direct you to my website so you can see for yourself that all the trash talk about me is generated by jealous government whores who are afraid of the power of this superscoop expose that will change our lives.

  5. I’ve been called a lot of things, but never a “jealous government whore” — I feel honored! Fruit loops, anyone?

  7. I’ve seen this dude’s van around Santa Rosa, Cotati, and the North Bay in general. I’m pretty sure he gets SSI (money from the feds for being whacked) from the very feds he’s charging with this whacked conspiracy. He actually sounds intelligent when he starts on his tangent, but always gets cut off by the KGO radio host before he can spill the total beans on Mark David Chapman or Stephen King. He’s got Paul McCartney in on the job along with others. I think he has turrets syndrome too because he gets vulgar and creepy with his tangents too. I heard him call Len Tillems show about getting busted for medical pot smoking too. He plays John Lennon songs all day long in his van while smoking dope… sounds like lots of other dudes in the Frisco area… There’s my paragraph on the dude..His website is way over the top…I believe in plenty of conspiracies, but this one’s too big a turd to flush..

    night night

  9. Did it ever occur to anyone that Steve Lightfoot is exactly what he says he is, an investigator? On the face of it the first impression may seem preposterous that Steven King would have any need to be a hitman for elements in power. I too cannot shake that impression, however all the important elements are present in Mr. Lightfoot’s discoveries. I doubt that King if at all culpable could be more than a player in a layer of redirection. Even if a willing agent, he is probably not the shooter, but more likely a part of clever foil to subvert any real investigation.
It isn’t the “nuts” that are lured by the many clues, it’s those with an extraordinary ability of association. The fact remains that Nixon said in “The Real War” that “trendies” should be removed by any means and is still a fact even if the real means to kill Lennon was someone other than Steven King. It also remains a fact that Chapman was removed from the due process of justice and placed in the psychiatric subversion of it.
Why is it absurd that Lennon’s death was a political assassination that was cloaked by drafted patsies and bullshit? So what if Mr. Lightfoot got something wrong, he is still ten times more astute than anyone who uses innuendos of insanity as a substitute for thought and logical argument. With all those clever terms like pinwheel, and not so clever ones like crazy, all that is accomplished is to add power to the screwing shaft that pulls together banality and mayhem as the jaws of a vice. Any attempt to position something less extreme or less spirit killing will not be supported by those who have the power to incarcerate and use their thumbs up or down, never sideways. All so called borderlines are merely on the waiting list for judgment, and the only escape is a popular conscious rebellion.
Namecalling is what Stu Pididiot does because he is selectively brainlocked by forced public and private education. Mr. Lightfoot probably didn’t start out by calling his adversaries pinheads but with all that freewheeling psychiatric diagnosis that appears anyone can do, I can understand why he may eventually succumb to the spirit of those hostilities. A close cousin to Stu Pididiot is Callum Kraziazell. This guy has an ideology even more pernicious than Stu’s. No-one was ever locked away for being stupid.

  10. Steve, I am neither ignorant nor stupid, and it is painfully clear to me after reading every word of your website that you are MENTALLY ILL. Please get some help.

  11. I needed a good laugh today. Thanks Steve Lightfoot! I guess because Stephen King and Mark David Chapman look similar you came up with this crazy idea. Do me a favor, lay off the dope and start taking your meds!

  12. Re: Dalin Hale’s comments: “All the important elements are present in Mr. Lightfoot’s discoveries”? What? Where? I have read virtually everything the man has posted, and he is clearly suffering from PSYCHOTIC DELUSIONS. As for Chapman’s being “removed from the due process of justice and placed in the psychiatric subversion of it”, the law shows compassion for those who are incompetent to stand trial/not guilty by reason by committing them to psychiatric rather than penal institutions. Dalin, Your sympathies and outrage are misplaced. You make about as much sense as Steve. I wish you both peace of mind.

  13. Why are people talking about this dude so much? Is it fascination of media garbage. He’s no less irrelevant than the mainstream press, but no more either.
Now that Bernie Ward has been fired from KGO radio in SF, Lightfoot will have perhaps a more difficult time spreading his theory about John Lennon’s murder.
Let’s move on to an important discussion.

    Comment by Steve — January 28, 2008 @ 8:08 pm PST

  14. Ah, c’mon, Steve, don’t be such a pompous ass. Just because you don’t find a particular subject “relevant” or “important” doesn’t mean it doesn’t merit discussion. Steve Lightfoot is an interesting character!
I am no fan of “the mainstream press”, a major source of “media garbage”, but I don’t get the reference…?

  15. Steve Lightfoot is actually Matalik-Emil a wack who hung out on Flagler St. in downtown Miami in the mid ’70s handing out campaign literature to be elected US/World president. A true mad-genius bizzaro world inhabitant. I think that Jonathan Winters however is a true avitar and needs to be followed and studied. Thank You, Lindsay

  16. I stumbled on this guy’s site in 2000 and was like, wtf? Then I found his site again in 2006 and had a good laugh. I feel sorry for Steven King to have to be stalked by this nutbar though.

Comment by Chris 'Anonymous' Cormier — May 7, 2008 @ 6:48 am PST

  17. Lightfoot’s website has no substance. Only bogus inferences that have no bearing on reality. Anyone who directs you to a website looking to sell something is pretty clear on its objectiv.

Way too much time and enerty on this guy. Just keep smoking the medical weed and playing your beatles songs in the van…

    Sigh.

    Comment by Steve — May 7, 2008 @ 9:28 am PST

  18. this guy was in Boston today. Handing out pamphlets on his conspiracy theory. Nobody cared and he went on to scream out “Hey douche-bags, the government killed John Lennon and you don.t care!!!” He also stated that there were no men in Boston, just feminine males. He almost got his ass kicked. He left before we could slash his tires. Did I mention that he made the DB comment in front of women and kids? What a tool! I hope he comes back soon.

    Comment by william mahoney — June 24, 2008 @ 5:12 pm PST

  19. Steve was in Boston this week. Again on his way to find Stephen King in Maine. Upon reaching Maine he has decided stephen King is in Florida and is most likely there now.

One interesting Point…The man CANNOT drive.

    Comment by Redsox — July 11, 2008 @ 9:24 am PST

  20. Actually, it just occured to me. If Steve Lightfoot wants to do more work about his conspiracy theories, he needs to get in touch with American Folk Hero and secret agent, Richard W. McCullough of Indianapolis, Indiana. Together the two of them could either solve the two greatest conspiracy theories or room together at the asylum. And if they are proven correct, they can share the throne of England to which Richard holds claim.

  21. This guys van is parked in Hicksville, New York all the time now. Let get him to move on I dont want any wackos around my house.

Comment by people in hicksville new york — August 13, 2008 @ 8:34 am PST

  22. Quoted by Dalin Hale:

“With all those clever terms like pinwheel, and not so clever ones like crazy, all that is accomplished is to add power to the screwing shaft that pulls together banality and mayhem as the jaws of a vice.”

Ummm..okay, that sounds clever enough, but what in the hell are you talking about??!! Are you Steve’s brother or something? The similarity and random ridiculousness in your writing sounds mysteriously familiar. Hmmm…something smells fishy here…

    Comment by Lauren — August 13, 2008 @ 10:17 am PST

  23. Yes!!! The police moved him on….. Lets see where he ends up next.

Comment by people in hicksville new york — August 16, 2008 @ 5:17 am PST

  24. This guy is a just a delusional nutjob who thinks there are secret codes in magazines (like Russell Crow/John Nash in A Beautiful Mind, although the brilliance — just the crazy). Anyway those secret codes tell him that Stephen King shot John Lennon and he is 100% certain of the truth of this. The guy follows Stephen King around Maine and harasses him — he regularly files frivilous court petitions, protests, etc. Or he travels the country in his van.

    Comment by Frankie — August 20, 2008 @ 10:21 am PST

  25. Frankie just summed things up very nicely; John Nash is a good analogy. Our friend Steve is purely and simply mentally ill. He is not a genius. He is not a hero. He is someone who suffers (and I do mean suffers) from delusions. Pathetic, really. But sometimes amusing, if I may be so small as to say so. And sometimes annoying (ask Stephen King and the “douche bags” referenced above).

    Comment by Mihalinka — August 20, 2008 @ 10:59 am PST

  26. Latest sighting (Aug 31st, 2008): This whacko was in Central Park, New York City. My friend and I were laying in the park, when he stormed through screaming, for example, “Soviet Jews run your asses! Wake up you self centered fools. Fuck you New York Jews!”. Conspiracy theories are lame enough, but this guy is clearly nothing more than a hot-tempered antisemetic freakshow, whose crazier than a shit-house rat, and too cracked out on PCP to even differentiate his ass from his elbow.

But damn, it was hilarious to watch the trainwreck in motion.
