Google Labs strikes again with Google Video |

I learn almost everything fresh and new in the world via RSS and ultimately blogs these days. Today is no different when I came across Google Lab’s new brainchild: Google Video (beta, of course). The information via the Google Video help page on the service is barebones at the moment, but certainly more will be forthcoming. Thanks to Furrygoat for sharing and offering these useful suggestions:
While this is a great start, here’s what I think they need to do: When you search for a show and click on the “Upcoming Episodes” link, there needs to be a button there providing me with an RSS feed (preferably RSS-TV) with details for the show. While this adds a nice side benefit of being able to add the upcoming shows to an aggregator (for reminders of when things are on), the real killer feature would be if I could just hit that button and have my Media Center or Tivo add it to their “To-Do” list.
Note the pointer to RSS-TV which is a proposal by Andrew Grumet for using RSS to more easily facillitate personal video recording (PVR) of shows.
Furrygoat was tipped off on Google video by Sean Alexander [blog] who works for the Microsoft Media Center department. The power of blogging and information!
Ironically, the video search for Johnny Carson pictured above showcases an event I actually learned while playing around with our new Comcast HDTV PVR and Microsoft TV: a message that Johnny Carson had died. It’s rare, though that I hear anything new on television these days, it’s either while driving around in the car on the radio or via RSS. I read one blogger recently who learned about Johnny Cash via his SPOT watch but darn it I don’t have the link to share. If anybody reading this is that person or knows that link then please put it in the comments.. Found it here!
Did this post make you go hmm?
