It seems a bit odd for a school district to summon the Columbine memories because Doom and Halo 2 share very few violence similarities. Is there even blood in Halo 2? Doom is teeming with gore. Via KOMO:

Students in Puyallup hoped to use a video game tournament to raise money for tsunami victims. Parents signed off on the idea, but the school district suddenly said, “game over!” The controversy surrounds the students’ choice for the video game: Halo 2.

Given the choice for tournaments in school for charity, as a parent I would choose Halo 2 over Doom 3.
