My fuel: Tabasco |

I’ve written about my Tabasco addiction before. ‘Addiction’ might be too strong, perhaps ’severe craving’ would be better, as I don’t get withdrawals or anything if I don’t consume it (not!). Eating non-sugary food without Tabasco just isn’t the same. No, I don’t eat it on sugary items. Besides water, which I also use in copious quantities, Tabasco sauce is my fuel and it contains only three ingredients: red pepper, vinegar and salt. No preservatives and the lame imitations are just that: lame imitations. I don’t care, however, for the new brands of Tabasco sauce they’ve experimented with over the last couple years like the green Tabasco sauce. The fact that some restaurants substitute the traditional red Tabasco with these other flavors of Tabasco is almost worth rioting over.
Seriously, this last week we went to Costco where you can buy everything in large amounts. We bought a case of the large bottles which rang in at a little over $100 USD. The ladies at the counter were amazed that we’d buy this much Tabasco sauce and wondered how long it would last? They don’t know our family — or me — so it was a legitimate question; but isn’t Costco supposed to be for businesses? So it wouldn’t be so unusual for businesses to buy a case of the sauce and resell it. A large bottle will last 4-5 days when we are around and home, so a case of 24 large bottles will last 4 or 5 months (I travel sometimes, so I’m not home eating). I can devour one of the tiny Tabasco bottles in one (pizza) meal and about half or more of the medium-sized bottle. If you come to our home, you better be prepared for that fine Tabasco aroma!
I’ve hinted at the strong possibility that someday I will start a Tabasco fan blog as I’m probably one of the biggest fans of Tabasco sauce that walks the earth. Check out the Tabasco website, you can even send Tabasco Holiday greeting cards. In Vegas I saw some Tabasco slot machines and played them but they sucked — totally (I wanted to like the machines, really I did). Yes, my Tabasco fan blog may be coming to the web in 2005 …!
Did this post make you go hmm?

i find it much cheaper to buy the gallon bottle for around $40 and refill those little bottles (you get about 25 refills at 1.60 each), easy to do as the lids just pop off for a quick clean and off you go

This stuff is no macho thing. It is a delicious flavor enhancer for any non-sugary food. The world is full of hot sauces, but this one, with its 3 ingredients yet careful and time-consuming production process, is best. The best hot sauce in the world. Original Tabasco.

HEy, the sauce is good cause they ferment it. The e.coli resperating in an oxygen depleted environment makes lactic acid. Nice sour stuff. IF you like the flavor so much I encourage you to try Kimchi.
