Bill Clinton helps launch new Accoona search engine |
Former President Bill Clinton is still working the circuit, this time putting his name behind a new internet search company called
Former president Bill Clinton on Monday helped launch a new Internet search company backed by the Chinese government which says its technology uses artificial intelligence to produce better results than Google Inc.
AI to produce better search results than Google? Hmm, well I had to check this one out. I started with my name, “TDavid” and immediately noticed that, just like Google and most the other SE they think my name is misspelled and should be “David” grrr. Bad AI bot! The first result was for tdscripts.com as our principle site which was impressive (most have this blog as the first result). The second result was spam, though. The third result was somebody else’s site that linked to our web radio show. The fourth listing had our business information for KMR Enterprises, though it was a bit buggy. Their AI was off on our phone number that changed almost a year ago when we switched to VoIP. We’ve updated our websites and the whois info on most our domains but my business cards still show the outdated info.
Accoona’s AI didn’t do so hot either when I searched for “Things That Make You Go Hmm” and this blog wasn’t anywhere to be seen. Adding the word “blog” didn’t help. So I added my name and no luck there either. So I tried webmaster cookbook and that came up on the first try.
Accoona is crediting their superior search algos to something they call SuperTarget™ feature:
SuperTargeting™ depends on sophisticated Artificial Intelligence technology but Accoona makes this feature easy to use. Accoona adds another step in which you see the words you typed in your search query appear separately with a box next to each one. All you have to do is put a check into the box that contains the most important word or words in the phrase.
It was through this feature and the keywords “TDavid’s Blog” and by checking the box next to “blog” that I was finally able to find this blog. I did many, many more searches but in general I didn’t find Accoona faster than Google or all that more accurate. Perhaps it takes a lot more time using to be able to compare the superior AI.
In honor of Clinton’s appearance I decided to searh for “Monica Lewinsky cigar” and see how the AI performed. The first three sites were all Bill Clinton joke sites.
Accoona is worth playing around a bit with, but it’s not even up to the level of IceRocket yet IMO. Maybe they should set their sights on IceRocket before firing across the bow at Google. And somebody please tell that bot that my name is TDavid, not David.

I have created a artificial intelligence search engine too (it thinks for you and offers keyword suggestion that you may never have thought of, choices from related synonyms, antonyms, homonyms and thesaurus)! Check out http://www.SirSeek.com where you see the working beta. See some sample searches.
Unfortunately no expresidents or famous people are getting on TV to talk about my search engine (YET).

I have a great story to share about Accoona!!! My Boss gave me a task to “call Pricescan.com and get me a conf call so we can discuss a partnership etc…” I went to the Pricescan.com site but could only find email addresses in their contact section…not good… no phone # I drilled further in the site and still no # to call… so what do I do? Go to Accoona business search!!! typed in Pricescan, retrieved their result (in first spot) on the Biz search result page, AND clicked on their Accoona QuickProfile… and voila, PriceScan.com’s phone number, and location, etc… and I was able to reach a contact, speak to them, and fulfill my task, and set up a very important meeting!! The world is certainly a better place with Accoona!!! my “worries were over”, Accoona… no worries
