Not a scam: free online credit report checking begins Dec 1, 2004 in Western states |
Finally a way to access for FREE annual credit reports online starts tomorrow via AnnualCreditReport.com (FYI: you might have to right click and copy/paste this URL to your browser, because when I tried to access from a link from CNET it was blocking the referrers for “security reasons”) and will be available to the following 13 western states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington (yippie!) and Wyoming.
Consumers in 13 Western states will be able to grab free online copies of their credit reports starting Wednesday, as a new federal law is phased in. Under the terms of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act passed last year, amid growing concerns over privacy and disclosure of sensitive financial data, the three leading credit reporting agencies must provide consumers with a free summary once a year of all credit information on file for that person.
Don’t live in one of the Western rollout states? By Sepetmber 2005 all of the United States will be rolled out. This is great news for consumers to monitor what information creditors are receiving without having to go through the extra hassle of writing snail mail to request the reports.
Did this post make you go hmm?

i know this posting is a couple of years back now, but thought it was still worth mentioning that you can get a free online credit report anytime these days. Anytime you request credit from anyone, whether or not they deny you or accept you, you can ask for a free credit report and they are obligated to give it to you.
This is alwasy a good idea to do to see if the info is current. Alot of times it isnt and of the three credit bureaus, they are rarely consistent amongst each other. I know from experience as I had to clean up credit report when I was trying to get a mortgage.
I did in fact get many things removed and raised my score about 120 points across the board.
Take care all!
