Apple to unveil 60 GB iPod with color screen? |
Boy, I sure hope this isn’t true as I just bought a 40gig iPod and I am lamenting the fact that it doesn’t have a color screen. With the backlight on it is easier to read, but try navigating that badboy in a dark area to turn it on (is there a shortcut I don’t know about to get that on?). My iPaq Pocket PC was more affordable and came with an easy to read color screen.
Many analysts expect the Cupertino-based company to introduce an iPod upgrade Tuesday at an invite-only event featuring the rock band U2. There’s speculation it could be a new iPod with a color screen and a larger 60-gigabyte capacity equipped to handle photos and video; a special U2 edition; or one based on flash memory instead of a hard disk, giving it far less capacity but a more affordable price.
I’ll still be within the 14 day Best Buy return window if a better one comes out tomorrow. I’d be happy to pay a 15% restocking fee for a color screen and more storage space. If it doesn’t come to pass in the 14 day window though, then oh well, I’ll get by.
Did this post make you go hmm?

[…] I write this realizing that’s the breaks of staying on the technology bleeding edge — and in some cases I’m totally ok with that (videogame systems and some hardware) but it just seems like with Apple stuff the pricing is even more volatile. Take for instance the 60GB color iPod … weren’t those selling for $599 less than 12 months ago? Yeah, they were, and it prompted me to return my recently purchased 40 GB non-color iPod. What do those $599 60GB color iPod’s cost now? $399! So 200 bones is the price for … impatience? Still even $399 for a color screen and no video or WiFi? It seems like iPod history says: hang tight on the iPods for a better deal. There will be something cheaper and better in less than 12 months and this whole cycle will begin anew. Maybe something with WiFi and video. Now when Apple gets that device and makes it pencil thin and prices it under $500? Then I’ll be doing the happy dance all the way to the nearest authorized Apple dealer. […]
