Software maker exposes hidden metadata in documents |
Hiding information in Word and other Office documents continues to be a problem for some folks.
The company on Monday launched Metadata Risk, a Web site with information on the dangers posed by hidden metadata in documents. The site includes Metafind, a downloadable tool for automatically analyzing and exposing metadata in documents posted on a given Web site. “There’s up to 25 different types of hidden metadata that exists in Microsoft documents,” said Matthew Brown, Workshare product manager. “And the more documents get passed around, the bigger the risk becomes.”
Am I missing something here? Don’t use metadata in documents. There is plenty of third party software to use for annotating Office documents so why use the apparently easy to hack hidden metadata option? Or, at the least, when the document is edited, remove all the metadata. What am I missing here?
Did this post make you go hmm?
