Ignore the name of the function, it does actually delete the spam, not move it to the trash. I’ve just tested the script, and it has a bit of a problem parsing some emails, mostly spam in weird character encodings I think. It should just pass those emails by instead of deleting them, so there’ll still be a few left over by the time the script has finished running

Well you could create a macro script to do the button pushing for you but it would not be very cool... and you couldent use your comp for a couple of hours.

I wish there was a simple option under settings to simple DELETE spam email - foget about moving it to it's own folder / mass deleting. I don't even want to see the spam... I really hope they add in a feature than just auto-deletes it if turned on.

My theory on this is that they are purposely making it hard to delete permanently to get people used to 'archiving'. Once behavior modification has set in and people are used to GMail's paradigm, having the mass delete option or a single key move to trash isn't as threatening.

My guess is that the feature will silently show up, maybe just as a shortcut key or other 'expert' user trick that will be unofficially undocumented...

It's not a lot of help - but you can change your settings to allow you display (and therefore delete) 100 messages at a time. So 5 hours instead fo 10!
