Toys ‘R’ Us may get out of toy business |
Looking towards the Babys ‘R Us line as a possible profitable alternative, NPR is reporting that Toys ‘R Us is thinking about selling it’s retail toy business. People purchase baby stuff year round but toy sales really only peak in the 4th quarter during holiday season.
In a bid to shore up its stock value amid tough competition from big-box discounters such as Wal-Mart, Toys “R” Us says it could sell off its toy store business.
They say they are being hurt by the discounters like Wal-Mart and Target but I think they are also being hurt by online sales. The last few times we’ve gone shopping at our local Toys ‘R Us it was a morgue with more sales people milling about than customers.
They have a pretty good new (and older) video game selection and their prices aren’t too bad, but yes you can get most titles cheaper elsewhere. I must admit that when I’m thinking of buying a new video game I don’t think of going to Toys ‘R Us. Most of our retail purchases are made at Best Buy which has a Rewards club. Maybe Toys ‘R Us should toy with some sort of incentive club like Best Buy.

I hope they stay in business, it would be a shame if they didn’t.
