Taking my teen son to Ozzfest tomorrow |
I wish my dad would have taken me to a rock concert. Tomorrow, I’m taking our oldest son to see Ozzfest. I only know songs from a few of the bands that are playing: Black Sabbath (first time I’ll see them and looking forward to it), Judas Priest reunion (saw them on Defenders of the Faith tour and they totally rocked), Slayer (like a couple of their songs), Black Label Society (never seen them in concert but looking forward to it), Slipknot and Hatebreed (not really thrilled with either of these bands, but trying to have an open mind). Bands I never had listened to — but am experimenting with now through the Napster subscription I have — include: Superjoint Ritual, Every Time I Die, and Otep. I’m noticing some very familiar music (influence) from better known bands in some of this music. Bands I know pretty much nothing about include: Lamb of God, Atreyu, Bleeding Through, Lacuna Coil, Dimmu Borgir, Unearth, God Forbid, Devil Driver, Magna-Fi, Throwdown and Darkest Hour. Not sure what to expect from these bands but I’m hoping that it’s not all complete speed death metal.
So to summarize, I’m totally looking forward to the headline bands and hoping that the other bands will have some bright spots and/or turn me onto some music that isn’t going to give me a severe headache. My son and I share similar tastes in music, and I know that he is really excited about going to Ozzfest.
Tonight my son and I are going to stock up on some supplies for the day long event which begins at [gasp] 9AM PST. I will be writing about this and probably sending along a few cameraphone pics tomorrow.
