Microsoft, Apple sued over web software updating |
UK-based BTG International, Teleshuttle Corporation, and Teleshuttle Technologies have launched a lawsuit against Apple Computer and Microsoft, alleging that the software-update features in Mac OS X, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Windows violate patents for Web-based software updating.
Is it just me or has there been an increase in patent infringement suits related to the internet in the last 18-24 months? Why is the patent office patenting processes like autoupdating software through the web? Then again, I’m not a big fan of auto updating software (usually without the user’s permission) so maybe this patent will hold up and software vendors will stop doing this (at least on a forced basis, as an option which is not enabled by default is ok).
Did this post make you go hmm?
