Several lapses in good judgement and common sense apply to this story: 1) teachers aren’t supposed to be as good looking as Debra Lafave (no moles, no facial hair, no sagging breasts) 2) Couldn’t Mrs. Lafave have gone to any bar and easily had a sexual encounter with people her own age [over 18]? 3) What was she thinking?!?!? 4) Distant relative of Mary Kay Letourneau? 5) Will Mrs. Lafave be getting a divorce? 6) What’s the story behind her mystical Chinese letter tattoos? 

TAMPA — A newlywed middle school teacher has been charged with having sex numerous times with a 14-year-old student, including in a classroom, her apartment and once in a vehicle while his 15-year-old cousin drove.

She was set free on bail pending trial. If found guilty she could receive 15 years in jail for each of the five charges against her, not to mention the pedophile label for the rest of her life. Nice going, Mrs. Lafavor … not!

Update 11/22/2005 3:10pm PST: Lestat provides this story update of the court ruling:

The deal provides that Lafave will not serve any jail time in connection with multiple sex acts with a 14-year-old student unless she violates the terms of the plea agreement, which includes three years of house arrest and seven years’ probation.

Three years of house arrest and seven years probation? This is a slap on the wrist, at best. If it was a guy and a female student involved there would have been some hard time.
