The FBI is trying to convince the government to mandate that providers of broadband, Internet telephony, and instant-messaging services build in backdoors for easy wiretapping.

I’m probably in the minority on this one. I think it’s a good idea that with a court order, they should be allowed to tap these conversations. The problem that I have is that I believe that sometimes the law will not follow the law and they’ll tap people’s conversations and thus violate their privacy. Maybe I’ve seen too many Hollywood movies and in the real world these taps don’t exist without the necessary court mandates, but it’s not the cops watching over the bad guys that worries me, it’s the bad cops watching over the good guys.
