American Online, EarthLink, Microsoft and Yahoo work together on spam situation — sort of |
America Online, EarthLink, Microsoft and Yahoo scored a major publicity coup earlier this month, when they launched their first joint legal assault against spammers. The suits claim that hundreds of unnamed defendants sent messages using false e-mail addresses–a violation of the newly enacted federal Can-Spam Act.
That’s the good news. The bad news is that there seems to be no similar consensus on technology that will actually rid the web of these spammers. Sometimes competition needs to forget they are competition and come together for the good of all. In the case of dealing with a technological solution for reducing the spam in all our inboxes, the message from the netizen public is clear: make it stop.
