news, health and lifestyle — by TDavid @ 10:41 am PST

More than 1100 homes and 17 people have lost their lives in several fires raging (linkrot: wishtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=1499715) around southern California. Oregon is joining (linkrot: news.statesmanjournal.com/article.cfm?i=69837) the firefighting efforts. We need to put these brave firefighters in our thoughts today.

  1. 14 already Dead in fire while California’s National Guard reinforcements are 10,000 miles away in Iraq. Three times as many people have been forced out of their homes compared to the great Arizona fire of 2002 or the Canberra (Australia) fire last January. Most likely directly related to Global Warming, 2001-02, was the driest in the history of Southern California. Also related to Global Warming, one of the worst droughts in history opened the way for bark beetle infestation which has already killed or is killing 90 percent of Southern California’s pine forests. After screaming about ‘out of control’ public spending, Arnold’s wealthy supporters are screaming for fire engines. It appears that ‘big government’ is the only thing standing between their $3 million homes and ‘termination’. But why worry? We’ll all just drive away in hummers, leaving nothing but a trail of smoke. Cough, cough.
