Email becoming totally unreliable? Some suggestions |
Recently, I’ve been having to send multiple emails out to folks and a few have had to email me more than once because email is not getting through If legitimate email is getting through then filters seem to be chewing it up. Currently I’m averaging 50 emails per hour coming in and that is the mail that has already been filtered. Chris Pirillo commented on this situation awhile back, but I swear it has gotten worse, not better since that time. Here’s what I wouldn’t do when emailing people:
1) do not assume they received it on the first email
2) send again if you don’t hear back with the words 2nd request in the header (or 3rd, 4th, etc).
3) get an alternate contact method for your business contacts like telephone, IRC, IM, or Skype. Speaking of Skype, version .93 is available for download and they even have their own forum now.
4) if you have programs which rely on email validation, accept the reality that approximately 25% (that’s the numbers we are experiencing) are not getting through to the intended recipient for validation. Maybe you can have the programmer create a form to resend the validation emails so the users can send them over and over again until they receive.
Did this post make you go hmm?
