Callto tag Internet Explorer association problems |
A couple of folks have stopped by and commented and said they were having problems with callto tags working with their browsers and Skype:
Jorge writes: “Im just using IE6 and the cllto:// tag opens an 404 error new window.”
and bandolex writes: “is there some way to see why skype isn’t associating with callto tags? i reinstalled the last verion of skype, make sure its associated with callto tags, restart computer and nothing. All i get is an “Invalid syntax error” The page cannot be displayed page (i already have user friendly error messages turned off). Im using IE6 + Win2k.“
Jorge and bandolex: check your Internet Explorer security settings and make sure that ActiveX is running:
- In Microsoft Internet Explorer, click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
- Click the Security tab. Select Custom Level and you should see a section called ActiveX controls and plug-ins. Now verify that the radio buttons are checked for the following options:
Download signed ActiveX controls - Enabled
Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins - Enabled
Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting - Enabled
Now try again with these options set and see if that helps. You might also try removing the // after the callto and make callto:your_name instead as the Microsoft docs state for Netmeeting. Another note, though probably you already know this, but you cannot call yourself, so you need to either test by clicking on my Skype link (see beneath my picture to the right) or testing a friend’s Skype account.
