Call For Help show on TechTV: weekdays 3pm EST channel 354 |
I’ve had access to watch TechTV for a long time as a DirecTV subscriber and yet over the weekend I finally setup at TiVO Season Pass to record their Call for Help show so that I could watch while eating dinner. The first episode I ever watched: Discover eBay secrets. I’ve read people saying that the show isn’t as good with Leo Laporte [blog] as it was with Chris Pirillo, but since I never watched it when Pirillo was on either I don’t have a frame of reference to compare. For those who don’t know about the Call for Help show here’s some more details:
- it’s on the TechTV channel 354 (DirecTV) weekdays at 3pm EST and runs 60 minutes long
- there are (staged or live?) call-ins with tech questions (what is DSL?, what is packet loss, etc) and a game show segment at the end
- Cat Schwartz [blog] is there along with anchors Michaela Pereira and Chris Leary on a laid back show set. They seem to be having a good time doing the show
- there is a daily free file that you can download (nice!) along with archives that go back to December 2002
- you can get daily show notes emailed to before the show airs
My overall impression after watching the first show is positive. It seems geared towards the more novice user, but there were a few tips on downloads and websites for both Windows and Mac users that could make it diverse enough to hold a user with intermediate skill on the web. My only real disappointment is that I haven’t set a Season Pass for this show sooner. They did a special show on filesharing and the RIAA called Music Wars on Friday that I should have recorded. The good news is Music Wars is airing again Monday 9/15 and 9/16, so you might want to get your PVR’s set.
