John Robb writes: why aren’t PR agencies all over webloggers that do product reviews to ensure that the reviewer gets all the relevant information needed to make an objective review? I do some reviews and have started to ponder the idea of putting up a form so that companies could contact me with their (most likely technology-related) products to review. But then I started thinking: who am I? Then I realized who are most reviewers? What are the qualities of a reviewer? They must be able to write at least somewhat intelligently. They need to have some understanding of the product or service they are reviewing. It helps if they like to review the subject matter. I don’t think a reviewer can review say movies in a genre that they do not like. My tech qualifications? I am a consumer who buys lots of tech-related (and web-related) gear including video games, PCs, software and hardware. And of course if one looks at my bio I do professional tech-related things, business-wise, on the web. For those who are interested, I also have recently started submiting reviews for blogcritics now (thanks Eric), so that is additional possible exposure of a favorable (or not so favorable) review.

I agree with Mr. Robb’s sentiments that PR agencies are missing out on a marketing segment. They could — and should — make sure that they provide good review kits to webloggers. How many websites even setup review kits? If anybody reading this has some web-related product or service they’d like me to review, drop me a line. Just keep in mind that my opinion cannot be bought. If I like it, I’ll say so, and the converse is true as well. Loudly if I like it a lot, and just as loudly if I dislike it a lot.
