In this Independent article the question is asked: Is Microsoft to blame for the virus problems? It further delves into the issue of whether email is broken or not. I’ve heard the argument that if Microsoft created less buggy software than we wouldn’t have these problems but I am not sure I completely buy that. Every piece of software comes out with bugs, videogames are released with bugs — why? Humans aren’t perfect! So to assume that no matter how many millions of dollars are put out, there is always going to be some hole, some weakness, some point of breach for a malicious user. I don’t think, much as it might sound good to do so, putting the majority of the blame on Microsoft for this is fair. It is true that their software is a vehicle being used to cause many of their users misery, but if some other company controlled so much of the market, would we be condemning them?
