Tablet PC to overtake laptop market, says Riley |
Well yes, according to Christopher Riley and you know what? I totally agree! Damn him, feeding my geekish desire to own a tablet PC!
At first I was not down with the idea either, but after demoing a tablet PC at a recent trip to Best Buy, I’ve got the fever! Here’s some of the pros suggested by Riley:
handy swivel screen - easy for sharing in meeting or sales appointment situation. Like sharing notes from a legal tab, but much more techie. A real conversation starter — which in sales is extremely important — for sure!
writing recognition software has improved - This impressed me when I scrawled a note in both cursive and printed and it accurately detected what I was writing. If you attend a lot of meetings and a feverish note taker (moi), the Tablet PC is a far better choice than Palm which is convenient but can take forever to graffiti your thoughts to go along with the lecture. Especially if it can detect my handwriting!
booting up is much faster - Finally, they figured out that 1-2 minutes to get to something usable is actually not user-friendly!
annotating documents - A friend sends you a document, you can mark it up and send it back without ever having to type a word
Ok, so the price is the downfall. Most tablet PC’s I’ve seen so far are several hundred to thousand or more dollars than comparable laptop-only models. This could be a big strike against the movement, but with all the other features, I really think people will gravitate towards them in the long run. Not to mention just think of all those trees that will be saved!
